About Whatever Will Be Films

Whatever Will Be Films is the name Dan Walls calls his production ‘company.’ Dan has been shooting videos since he was a teenager, with some classic titles being Ginagubbie (I, II & III), Geraldton CIB, Where the Footstep Gleams and Let’s Have A Fight Hotel. He then studied Communications Film, TV and Radio at Murdoch University and made some good and not so good short films. His award winning short Unky Doom was optioned for development into a feature film, bringing some free lunches and a feature length script. However, some 24 years later, Dan assumes the feature length film is now unlikely to be made. This is a relief, as he lost the script he wrote on an Apple Macintosh he stole from uni anyway.

When video equipment became prohibitively expensive in the mid to late 90s with the shift to digital, Dan spent many years working in his other love, theatre, producing, writing and acting. During this time, he also dabbled in short film, writing some diamonds in the rough such as Priceless and Spam. In the late 2010s when video gear became more accessible, and staging theatre become prohibitively expensive, he reacquainted himself with the camera and shot four shorts in as many years.

In early 2020, Dan completed ‘Display Home’. It was since won prizes for screenplay and direction, and continues to make its way around the world in film festivals.

About Dan

Dan recently completed his Master of Arts (Writing) at Swinburne University with a focus on writing for stage and screen. His final project, the play “Meeka” went on to enjoy a successful season at fortyfivedownstairs in 2016 - a co-production with renown Melbourne theatre company Hoy Polloy and the company he co-founded, The Act-O-Matic 3000.

He won Best Direction, Best Screenplay and The Screen Producer’s Association of Australia (SPAA) Award for Excellence for “Unky Doom”, his graduating film from Murdoch University at the WA Film and Television Institute’s Screen Awards last century. Dan was also surprised to win an admission from his tutor who said he’d marked the film too harshly.

Walls’ more recent short films ‘No Getting Away’, ‘Last Seen Alive’ and ‘For Your Safety’ have featured in short film festivals around the world. They have received screenings in Indonesia, Australia, UK, Italy, Greece, Serbia, India and the USA – notably at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
